SENCO & SEND Leadership
SENCO & SEND Leadership
Making inclusion everyone's responsibility.
Every child deserves to feel safe, belong, access high-quality teaching and have the opportunity to succeed. Making this a reality requires more than the expertise of a SENCO. It depends on the knowledge, decisions and actions of leaders, teachers and support staff working together to create an inclusive school.
With an MEd in Inclusion and SEND, and more than 30 years in education, I bring experience spanning classroom teaching, SEND provision, SEND leadership, school headship and work as His Majesty's Inspector (HMI). As a safeguarding leader and through my experience coaching NPQ SEND, I understand the importance of effective leadership, professional accountability and systems that protect children and enable them to thrive.
My work supports individual SENCOs and SEND leaders, as well as schools seeking to strengthen inclusive practice, develop staff expertise and ensure that SEND is reflected in everyday teaching, leadership and decision-making.
From adaptive teaching, scaffolding and effective deployment of teaching assistants to safeguarding, whole-school provision and inspection readiness, the focus is on making inclusion meaningful, effective and sustainable.
Because SEND is everyone's responsibility, and every child deserves a school in which they can be safe, included and able to thrive.
Individual SENCO &
SEND Leadership
The SENCO role calls for specialist knowledge, professional judgement and the ability to influence practice across a school. Balancing strategic leadership with operational demands, supporting colleagues and working with families can leave little time to step back and think.
Leadership coaching provides protected space to reflect on challenges, explore different perspectives and identify practical ways forward.
Our work might focus on:
Prioritising competing demands and strengthening strategic and systems leadership.
Influencing colleagues and building shared responsibility for SEND across the school.
Using diagnostic assessment and evidence to understand pupils' needs, inform provision and evaluate impact.
Navigating challenging conversations and professional relationships.
Developing confidence in decision-making, professional judgement and strategic planning.
Finding sustainable ways to lead effectively while managing the demands of the role.
The focus is on you, your context and the leadership challenges that matter most to you.
Inclusive Practice &
SEND Provision
Inclusive practice is shaped by the quality of teaching, the knowledge and confidence of staff, and the systems and leadership decisions that support pupils across a school. It requires shared responsibility, clear priorities and approaches that respond to pupils' needs.
I work with school leaders, SENCOs and teams to strengthen inclusive practice, develop staff expertise and connect SEND provision with wider school improvement.
Our work might focus on:
Developing adaptive teaching through scaffolding, modelling and pre-teaching.
Using assessment and evidence to identify barriers to learning and inform appropriate interventions.
Strengthening teaching assistant deployment to support learning, participation and pupil independence.
Building staff confidence and shared responsibility for SEND across the school.
Aligning provision, safeguarding, professional development and leadership priorities.
Reviewing systems and approaches to identify opportunities for sustainable improvement.
The approach is collaborative and practical, shaped around your school's context, priorities and capacity for change. The aim is to make inclusion part of everyday practice, rather than another initiative for staff to manage.
Every SENCO, leadership team and school context is different. The starting point is understanding what you want to achieve, the challenges you are navigating and the support that would be most useful.
Depending on your priorities, we might work together through:
Individual coaching
Confidential online sessions offering protected time to reflect, explore challenges and identify practical next steps.
Focused professional development
Targeted work on a particular aspect of SEND leadership, inclusive teaching or provision, shaped around your needs and priorities.
School and team development
Collaborative work with leaders and staff to strengthen shared understanding, develop practice and align systems with the school's inclusion priorities.
The format, scope and timescale are agreed around the work required. Whether you are looking for support with an individual leadership challenge or seeking to strengthen inclusive practice across your school, the aim is to make the work relevant, manageable and sustainable.
Individual online coaching
One 50-minute session: £75
Four-session coaching package: £280
Four sessions provide an opportunity to explore leadership challenges over time, reflect on progress and turn thinking into practical action.
School and team development
Work with school leaders and teams is tailored to your priorities, context and desired outcomes. Fees are agreed in advance according to the scope and format of the work.
If you're unsure which approach would be most useful, we can discuss your needs before deciding how to proceed.
Whether you're looking for space to think as a SENCO, developing your leadership of SEND, or working to strengthen inclusive practice across your school, I'd welcome a conversation about what you want to achieve.
Together, we can explore an approach that fits your context and supports meaningful, sustainable improvement.
